Flying out of Zurich Airport (ZRH) early in the morning or arriving late? Here are the best Zurich airport hotels. THE BEST OVERALL ZURICH AIRPORT HOTEL: Hilton Zurich Airport

Since virtually all of Zurich’s airport hotels are expensive you may as well choose the nicest and most luxurious option -- the Hilton Zurich Airport. Free shuttles make the short drive between the Hilton and the airport every 10 or 15 minutes, a more frequent schedule than any other ZRH hotel. The rooms here are larger than any other ZRH airport hotel and come with all the amenities you’d expect including in-room wireless internet. Best of all is the Hilton’s alpine setting. The property is perched on a hill at the edge of a forest through which the there’s a walking/jogging trail for guest use and a field of flowers that will have you spinning around as if from a scene in Sound of Music.
HONORABLE MENTION BEST ZURICH AIRPORT HOTEL: Swissôtel Zurich
---------------- For a combination airport-and-downtown hotel, there is no better location in Zurich than the Swissôtel’s. The property is across from a train station from where there is frequent service to the the city center (two stops away) and the airport (one stop). You can also make the airport journey on the hotel’s shuttle bus but that costs CHF 8, runs on an inconsistent schedule. As for the hotel itself, it doesn’t exactly exude character but it is modern, efficient and amenity-filled. It is well worth upgrading to a superior room, which not only have better bathrooms and upper-floor views of the Alps (and free binoculars for taking in the vista) but also free in-room internet. In the standard rooms, wifi costs a whopping CHF 30 for 24 hours.
CLOSEST HOTEL TO THE AIRPORT: AIRPORT DAYROOMS
---------------- Inside the airport itself are the Airport Dayrooms. The windowless cell-like accommodations contain a sink, a fluorescent lamp, a bed that is something akin to a glorified cot . . . and nothing else. The Dayrooms are inside passport control and airport security, which means you won’t be able to stay here if you are arriving into ZRH late (because you won’t be able to pick up your checked luggage) or if you are departing early (because you likely won’t be able to check in to your flight to obtain the boarding pass needed to get past security). However, if you have a long layover and want a place to crash for a few hours the Dayrooms are a very practical and reasonably priced option. The closest proper hotel to the airport is the Hotel Fly Away. Technically you can walk here from Terminal 2 but the way involves negotiating a construction site and several non-pedestrian friendly roads.
THE BEST VALUE ZURICH AIRPORT HOTEL: Novotel Zurich Airport Messe
---------------------------- After a renovation in 2007 the Novotel Zurich Airport didn’t raise their prices but did raise their quality immensely. The rooms are now modern and clean and feature comfortable beds. There’s a certain chic edge to this property now, not to the point where it would be featured along with other high design hotels but enough to make guests feel like they are staying in someplace a little special. Adding to the value, the hotel offers complimentary in-room wireless internet and the rate includes a basic breakfast. The Novotel’s location is not very convenient for exploring Zurich but the free shuttle every 30 minutes does make for a relatively easy commute from the airport.
